So, I'm moving most of my big stuff today (including this computer). My new room is a little bit bigger (and a great deal better shaped), so I moved my dresser and a bookcase (that were previously living at my mom's) into it yesterday. Today, I'm moving my computer (and desk and chair), television (and base and vcr), and my nightstand. Then all I'll have to move will be various small things.

Watched the new Peter Pan recently and have fallen in love with Peter and Wendy. Which makes the whole thing a total tragedy. Because... he's so close to being willing to grow up for her and can't quite take the last step. And yet he yearns. If only she'd known enough to tell him that not all adults work in offices. He could have been a writer or artist or... any number of things, really. There's so much in the world that isn't held in by walls, but she didn't know about it (her father being a banker) and thus couldn't tell him.

So, it's tragic, because he really was totally in love with her. I mean, like woah.

I had tears in my eyes at the end. Because he thinks that to live would be a great adventure and yet... doesn't. Because he's scared of being a suit.

I kinda wanna write "Pan returns a couple of years later, is upset that Wendy is actually growing up, and decides that he can't let her leave him behind" fic. Because I really am a romantic, you know.

You? A romantic? Never would've guessed that one. :p

I know, I bury it so very deeply.

*giggles*

Aw... Riley looks so cute and wholesome there.

*pets Riley*

I love my Riley. I'll never understand why people hate him so. Even given the large amount of people who automatically hate anyone who's 'traditional male hero'-ish, his haters seem to include far too many people.

Well, I hated him because he was dating Buffy (I was pretty young when the show started -- a year behind Buffy and Co.). Then he left and I kinda missed him. And he came back and was fun (I liked As You Were). So now, rewatching, I like him fourth year, too. He's a very interesting character, though I definitely see why he and Buffy didn't work.

He's in this icon actually -- he's the orange blur behind Buffy.

Not to get hopelessly meta, but your phrasing reminded me of what precisely the Buffy/Riley problem was - once he didn't have his own source of power, he was always just going to be the blur behind Buffy.

This is why I really have hopes for Buffy having healthy relationships now she's no longer The Chosen One. It wasn't just Riley - practically anybody wouldn't have worked out as a boyfriend/girlfriend. If I didn't ship B/X post-finale, I'd definitely ship B/R. (I like to ignore the existence of Sam.)

Well, I hated him because he was dating Buffy

Because you were jealous, or because you were already a hardcore B/X shipper? :)

That's, like, poetic. Also, very true.

Again, so true. I like to think of her flinging with the Immortal while Xander is in Africa. They both get to grow up and away from each other for a while. Then they can all get back together and B/X could get together. They really do have compatible natures, this is why I've 'shipped them.

Because you were jealous, or because you were already a hardcore B/X shipper?

Both. I didn't really want anyone dating my girl, but I would have been willing to bend for Xander. Oddly, though I identified more with Xander and adored him, I was never possessive about him in that way -- I liked Cordy more when they were together and I enjoyed the beginning of the X/A relationship.

You know, that's so completely true, and I never really realized it before now. It makes you wonder, what would Peter do if Wendy had told him he could be anything he wanted to me.

And you should definitely write that fic. And she can, being a little more grown up and knowledgeable about the world, tell him that he can be anything he wants to be. Because I think we're all romantics, you know, and you'll have a guaranteed audience for that one.

Hmm. Perhaps I should. Because there are fics out there but I haven't found any good ones (doesn't mean they don't exist, but I haven't seen hide nor hair).

I haven't actually seen (or looked for, really) any Peter Pan fanfics. Maybe I should ask for recs.

Once I felt the urge to write one, I decided to look and see if any were being written. But I haven't found anything good, sadly.

I love Peter Pan! It's the best Peter Pan movie ever! It was so perfect and the chemistry between Peter and Wendy was phenomenal!

I just love it with a big honkin' love!

So, it's tragic, because he really was totally in love with her. I mean, like woah.

It *is* tragic and that's part of the reason I love about the movie that it showed how incomplete Peter is. Wendy was right, Peter's not wanting to grow-up is his biggest pretend because he does want to but he's just so afraid.

And he is in love with Wendy and... *sigh*

I just love Peter he's so screwed-up and bloodthirsty and just so lovable! And Wendy with the Redhanded Jill and the sword and the "Who be you to order me about and call me girlie!"

And the mermaids! Um... sorry... rambling XD

I kinda wanna write "Pan returns a couple of years later, is upset that Wendy is actually growing up, and decides that he can't let her leave him behind" fic. Because I really am a romantic, you know.

Oh, please say you will! Because even though I liked the tragedy thing I'd like Peter ending up with Wendy better:)

BTW, have you read We out grow love, like other things (http://thedoublehelix.org/sophia/weoutgrow.html)? It's really good and bittersweet.

Oddly, though I identified more with Xander

That probably explains it. :) Also, from the very beginning Xander was the pursuer and Buffy the pursuee - even if you're a B/X shipper, it makes sense that he needs to spread his wings a bit, prove his romantic independence from her. In a way, Xander's relationship with Cordelia, or something equivalent, would be necessary for the furtherance of the B/X ship.

I still don't like Buffy with the Immortal. Her having something no-strings-y, sure. But she should have grown past the morally-ambiguous immortal crush stage by now. I don't see it as growth. What I really, really want to see is Buffy going out with a normal guy. At least a human!

Honestly, we don't know how morally ambigious the Immortal is. He kept two evil vampires chained up and had sex with two others -- this is about the evilest act of his that we know of. He also makes women very happy and spared nuns from Angelus' tastes. He doesn't even give the chicks he boffs false hope -- I doubt that Buffy is thinking this is a forever thing, because the Immortal seems to be much more honest about these things than Parker (Now Parker is still someone I have plenty of dislike for.).

Right. I was moving toward a point and totally got lost. Buffy! She, um... right. She hasn't ever gotten a chance to move past the morally-ambigious stage because her m-a's tend to disappear in a flourish of a coat or burn up saving the world. She needs to do the m-a thing where it just ends and the world goes on just the same.
