butterfly: (With Age -- Jack)

I always find it vaguely odd when I have just one pairing in common with someone and all of our other fandom politics are pretty much opposed. Because there's this web of connectivity with all the things I like, so it's weird to think that other people's webs are connected differently.

Okay, not so much 'shocking' as 'obvious'. Or 'new'... well.

'Obvious and Trite Truth' is just a less exciting headline.

I've been watching more Hercules and it's so hilarious. I love it. The cheese will suffocate me one of these days.

I'm very impatient about the return of SG-1. I have the feeling that I will enjoy it, because there has been very little of the show that I haven't enjoyed.

I suspect that had I joined Stargate fandom at an earlier point, that I might have joined the SDJ thing. Because that was happening right around the period in my life where I was really very needy about caring for things. So, it's a good thing that I didn't hear about the show until later. Because I seriously, completely adore Daniel. I think he's a multi-faceted, growing character played by an absolutely amazing actor. I have much respect for Michael Shanks. At a different time in my life, I could see that going to an unhealthy place.

I've definitely been enjoying Sam in S8. There are periods set earlier on, though, where she does annoy me. Actually, it's the Jack thing, because I always wince because it really does feel one-sided. She's giving him longing looks and he looks like he wants to run away. I do think that he's probably wondered what she'd be like in bed, because... well, many people do. I often wonder what the people I meet would be like in bed. I like her with Pete, though that relationship has serious crash-and-burn potential. But at least he's not an alien who looks down on her species for being 'primitive'. Amanda Tapping isn't as funny as she thinks she is, though.

Jack's made a pretty good general in the eps that I've seen (up to Endgame). He's not playing dumb so much anymore, which is a plus. And RDA continues to be unfairly hot. He also continues to sparkle the most around Daniel, which is why I 'ship them in the first place, of course. One of the commentators on Abyss mentioned that every actor has another actor who makes them work that much harder and Michael just brings out the best in RDA. I 'ship them because I see the most chemistry between them and because I think that if they were to start a relationship, it would have a good chance of working out.

Chris Judge is much sexier when he isn't Teal'c. And while Teal'c is woefully understudied, I know that I probably won't ever write that essay about Teal'c and his quest, because the Rebel Jaffa bore me so incredibly much. God, just rebel already. Though at least they stayed far away from the potential comic goldmine of having a real Jaffa revolution. We'd have been calling them the Revolting Jaffa all this time.

I may one day finish that essay on Sexism in Stargate, though, and Teal'c will be right at the top of the list.

Along with Rodney 'dumb blonde' McKay, of course. I love them both, yet also want to smack them for some of the things that they say.

Maybourne is one of my favorite reoccuring characters. I probably like him more than I like Jacob or Ishta, though slightly less than Doctor Lee or Oma.

I'm not a huge fan of Hammond. I don't dislike him, but also don't see him as irreplaceable. And like I said above, I've been pleased with what I've seen of General Jack so far. The reason that I got hooked on the show... well, the selling point was Daniel, but the first character that I actually saw, was, of course, Jack, because I started with Children of the Gods. So I'd already fallen for Jack by the time I met Daniel.

Sam, sadly, made a rather negative impression with me in that episode. She was very pushy and narrow-minded and it took me a while to like her. I liked Teal'c right away, but not as strongly as Jack and Daniel. I like Jonas, but suspect that I would have hated him had I been watching 'real time', with no foreknowledge of Daniel's return.

I'm also vastly amused by the fact that Michael Shanks voices Thor. It means he gets to be two of the most popular characters on a show, which isn't a claim most actors are able to make.

Mostly, I'm just incredibly in love with the show. It's fantastic and just what I needed, fandom-wise.

I suspect that had I joined Stargate fandom at an earlier point, that I might have joined the SDJ thing.

Yeah, I have to wonder about myself too. I mean, I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to participating in fandom campaigns, but my Daniel-love is so strong I may have actually got off my duff and sent some postcards, y'know? So it's good that I came late to this fandom.

Sam, sadly, made a rather negative impression with me in that episode. She was very pushy and narrow-minded and it took me a while to like her.

I'd actually heard of her "femi-nazi" first appearance in "Children of the Gods" before I saw the ep, but was determined to see her in best possible light. Ugh. The briefing room scene was her worst in that ep, IMO. When she and Daniel start running off with their theories? Then I started liking her a bit. Geek speak is cute :)

Actually, it was AT's performance in "Singularity" that made me more than a casual fan of the show. Shocking, in a way, since I'm mostly about Jack and Daniel. But Sam breaking down in the elevator over leaving Cassie to die... Hit me in the gut and stayed there. I find my favourite Sam moments are when she's interacting with other females (like Janet, Cassie, and Cadet Haley in "Prodigy").

I probably like him more than I like Jacob or Ishta, though slightly less than Doctor Lee or Oma.

Another Oma fan! I think she's pretty cool. There's just so much potential in the Ancients/Ascended story-line.

Hee. Some day I should probably put a disclaimer on my journal that says, "I like Spike AND Daniel Jackson. I am single-handedly responsible for the decline of Western Civilization." ;)

She's giving him longing looks and he looks like he wants to run away.

Yeah, that pretty much covers it for me. I don't have any trouble believing that Sam is in love with Jack, but I can't think of a single moment in eight years where it really feels like he reciprocates.

Chris Judge is much sexier when he isn't Teal'c.

And I kind of feel like Teal'c is sexier in S8 than he was before, because he just seems a bit more human, a bit more approachable.

We'd have been calling them the Revolting Jaffa all this time.

*sigh* I am inevitably going to think of them as the Revolting Jaffa from here on out. Thanks. *g*

Exactly. I've never sent anything for anything, but I really do love Daniel. If I'd had to go through Meridian without knowing I'd see Daniel again? I might have been willing to try to do something about it.

I'd actually heard of her "femi-nazi" first appearance in "Children of the Gods" before I saw the ep, but was determined to see her in best possible light. Ugh. Once she got past her "It's impossible!" thing, yeah, she was kinda cute.

I mostly liked AT in that, but I hated her saying at the end that she 'had a feeling' that things would turn out okay. Just bugged me.

I'm a big Oma fan. The whole Ancients plotline is a favorite of mine. We've been slowly learning more about them each time that they're featured and I like that slow unveiling process.

Hee! Well, both of them have kinda died a couple of times, so they do have that in common.

Yeah, that pretty much covers it for me. I don't have any trouble believing that Sam is in love with Jack, but I can't think of a single moment in eight years where it really feels like he reciprocates.

Which tends to make Sam look a little pathetic for still pining after the guy, especially when he's not all that nice to her sometimes. Which I really hate. Because of her position, she can't snark back at him the way Daniel does, and it just points out the inequality in the relationship.

I am inevitably going to think of them as the Revolting Jaffa from here on out. Thanks.

Oh, don't thank me. Thank Mel Brooks! I wouldn't have thought of it if not for him.

And now I have the urge to rewatch History of the World: Part One.

And RDA continues to be unfairly hot.

Oh, God, doesn't he? Every now and then he has a couple of episodes when he looks tired, and I'm all "okay, well, it could only last so long," and then the hotness comes back.

God, just rebel already.

Bwah!

It's kinda scary how hot I find RDA. Because really, he's older than my parents! But he's hot! With the hair and the quirky grin and those hands and the eyes! *thinks Jack is maybe, maybe a smidgen sexier than Daniel* Daniel is prettier though. In some lights he's drop-dead gorgeous.

(Don't mind me, I'm in a shallow place right now. Look! Hot Michael Shanks appendix scar! (http://www.livejournal.com/users/scrollgirl/174012.html?thread=908476#t908476))

Right. I keep expecting the hotness to fade away. But then it shines right back up again.

I think he's doing it on purpose.

I love that thing that he does with his eyes when he's around Daniel. That melty thing. He does it at the end of Lifeboat. He goes all soft in the eyes. It's so sweet.

Daniel is prettier though. In some lights he's drop-dead gorgeous.

Daniel definitely has a lock on the 'pure beauty' category. He's like a work of art, sometimes. He even has fairly symmetrical wrinkle lines.

Don't mind me, I'm in a shallow place right now.

The shallow is always welcome in my journal.

And RDA continues to be unfairly hot.

Dude, I am soooo right there with you. On one hand, it's unfair that any man should look like that at 55. On the other, ALL men should look like that at 55! *flails*

Maybourne is one of my favorite reoccuring characters.

Maybourne rocks. I remember hating him so very much at one time. But I love the fact that his character has grown so much, and developed. He's still a cocky, untrustworthy prick - but in a very endearing way! The eps with him and Jack are the best!

Sam, sadly, made a rather negative impression with me in that episode. She was very pushy and narrow-minded and it took me a while to like her.

I was the same way. Didn't like her, then liked her. But now I'm back to not liking her so much. It began around season 6, when her arrogance just became so overpowering I wanted to smack her. She's never been able to admit she's wrong about something or that, heaven forbid, there might be someone out there who knows more than her. In 'Redemption', when she was soooo certain that she took into account every possibility regarding the naquadria, and refused to listen to Jonas' warnings, I just wanted to smack her. And she does this more and more as the series progresses. Between that and *every* man/alien/robot who meets her falls instantly in love with her (except Jack, of course, because I agree with you that is one-sided) - she's just become so Mary Sue to me.

I liked Teal'c right away, but not as strongly as Jack and Daniel.

Teal'c is at his best, I think, when he's allowed to be humorous. I positively adored him as the straight man to Jack in 'Window of Opportunity', and there are just so many great bits between the two of them when they are allowed to work with one another. In 'Frozen', when Jonas and Teal'c are eating ice cream and Jack comes in to join them and tries to eat out of Teal'c container - the look of complete and utter 'FUCK YOU' that Teal'c gives him cracks me up everytime. And then he shoves another container into Jack's hand, only to trade with him later. They have some of the most hilarious moments together.

I like Jonas, but suspect that I would have hated him had I been watching 'real time', with no foreknowledge of Daniel's return.

I find myself wondering how I would have reacted. I adore Jonas - and I think season six is actually my favorite of all the seasons. But then, we also watched the entire show in the past three months, and I always knew Daniel left and came back. Then again, I've been a fan of Corin's since my early teens, when he was in the TV Movie 'I Know My First Name is Steven', and then again in 'Parker Lewis', so I probably would have given him more leeway than most. Even if I did adore the character of Daniel from way back in the movie.

I go up and down with Daniel. For the most part, he's my second fave character (behind Jack) but sometimes his whining in the first few seasons annoyed me. I think he's gotten much better as the series progressed, and it's so awesome to see the little traits he's obviously picked up from Jack! They are so OTP. Normally I don't see things like that, but they are totally the old married couple. And Michael Shanks has just become that character. I really can't picture James Spader in the role at all anymore.

I so totally adore this show! It's filled the fandom void that I've been dealing with for like the past 8 months. *happysigh*

I've given it many hours of serious consideration, and have come up with the following:

"Daniel, pretty; Jack, hot."

Daniel's got the big pretty eyes, and the cheekbones, and the obscenely pretty lips, but Jack just has the whole Jack thing going on, and that works for me.

And when he gives Daniel that *look* (see icon), how can anyone deny the slash? *g*

Yes, so very much so. It's both kinda horrible (and unfair) and yet really, really wonderful that he is so very hot.

Maybourne rocks. I remember hating him so very much at one time. But I love the fact that his character has grown so much, and developed. He's still a cocky, untrustworthy prick - but in a very endearing way! The eps with him and Jack are the best!

He's a great character. I'm thrilled about his evolution -- like you said, he's still a prick, but he's a likable one.

Teal'c is at his best, I think, when he's allowed to be humorous.

I think you're right -- that's why most of the Rebel Jaffa episodes are so boring, because it's all too serious.

Yeah, Daniel's really become more and more of a snarky wiseass over the years. And he actually used a Jack-phrase in a season seven ep, though I can't remember what it was. Damn. Well, when I rewatch the season, I'm sure that I'll notice it again because it really stood out.

I so totally adore this show! It's filled the fandom void that I've been dealing with for like the past 8 months.

I generally prefer the character that I've most recently seen being adorably snarky. But they're great tastes that... you know. Taste great. Together.
