Anonymous asked: I was specially looking out for poi spoilers before I watch the show because I was fearing this would happen. I heard people say that since the trope wasn’t as badly written as on the100 it isn’t bad but to me that’s not the crucial element of the harmfulness of the trope which is imo already minimal queer female rep and then staggering amount of death/tragedy for these already underrepresented rep. It can the best or worst written thing ever it doesn’t change it for me,
Butterfly replies: Yeah, part of the ouchiness of the trope is that both bad and good writers do it. It almost seems to be a constant of network television and it’s just really depressing. Whether the writing is gold or trash, queer ladies are always expendable.
Like, I read that there’s a new couple over on
Wynonna Earp and apparently right after they got together, someone said in an interview about the show that ‘no one is safe’ and general fandom went ‘oh no’ because at this point, we are just conditioned to feel that ‘no one is safe’ means ‘queer ladies aren’t safe’ because they’re usually the first on the chopping block. So, I’m kinda in a place where unless a new show actually is willing to say ‘hey, everyone is safe’, then I kinda just want to wait until the last episode of a show has aired and then watch it after I already know that the wlw actually survive the ending.

i don't know if i can say that root deserved better than the ending she got she did a lot of terrible things she said herself that a good ending would probably be more than she deserved and that's probably true but queer ladies watching tv deserve better than to constantly see their only representatives die and i realize that this ending was written and shot before the epidemic of queer ladies on tv this season getting killed all over the place but 'we were killing wlw before it was popular' is not really a winning argument bury your gays code 307 which is named after lexa i assume dead lesbian trope i already miss your face another one bites the dust :-(it really hurts that they never got to have this in reality i was telling that anon a couple of weeks ago that it would make no narrative sense to give them this in a simulation and then rob them of it in reality and it really doesn't it makes everything feel rushed and cheated and frustrating a week ago i was so excited and into this show it's so exhausting to be put in a place where all that gets taken away when i think about the fact that poi is airing tomorrow i just feel exhausted and concerned that it'll be shaw's turn to die for the team she IS the last lady left standing after all they were so close to making it out alive i put SO MANY shoot scenes in my queue before last week happened and i don't want to take them out because i do still love them but now there's this frustration and tiredness and yeah some bitterness i'm just so tired that we keep losing what little representation we have i'm so sorry shaw you got to have her back for such a short time before the inevitability of queer ladies dying on tv took its toll i still can't at this point decide whether or not i'm glad i started watching this show john's face in the middle there that's still kinda how i feel right now it hurts whenever i think about it hope is so important when you kill hope so much else dies along with it i have to admit that i have a hard time understanding how the writers who so clearly understood how powerful and important hope was for sameen failed to understand that hope is important for their queer fans too i miss you i miss you so much you were worth more than just a voice you're more than just a voice god i miss you
