butterfly: (Good Things - Ripley)
So, I'm finding it hard to get to sleep tonight. I'm currently doing set-up work on my website (nothing creative at this time of night, though, because I am tired, even though I can't sleep).

I'm officially twenty-two, now that we're past the 'Thanksgiving' thing and onto the day of my birth. Went to my dad's earlier for turkey and presents. Well, we started at my dad's and then went to my new grandmother-in-law's house. There was Trivial Pursuit, which was fun. The least fun part of the whole night was watching my dad and his wife get fairly well soused.

At one point in the evening, my dad remarked that he didn't know any gay people (one of the TP questions mentioned the word) and it was only to preserve holiday cheer that I kept my "Yes, you do, and I'm sitting right here," under my breath. Holidays are not the time to get into these things, especially with people who've had too much to drink, I would think. While I was driving my brother back over to my mom's, we had an interesting discussion on religion and free will (and I was pretty dismissive of Paul as a whole -- I don't like the guy much). I lent him Conversations With God; part one (the copy [livejournal.com profile] jic gave me) so he could get a better idea of my views (CWG and Ishmael pretty well cover a lot of my general views on life and society, though I tend even more towards the liberal and radical end of the scale).

I'm going over to my mom's today at two-thirty-ish, where I'll also see my aunt and uncle and will get more presents. Saturday, I'll be going over to [livejournal.com profile] jic's place, which is always a joy.

On a different note, I've been rewatching Buffy vids and Sarah is so fucking gorgeous. Such a beautiful woman.

Hey, Jeanie -- I got your postcard. Maine looks lovely. Thank you for thinking of me.

I'm currently going full-tilt into Christmas buying -- received some dvds in the mail that I'm gifting out to people. I've gotten some paper already and I'm currently figuring where I'll stash the gifts once they've been wrapped.

My evil plan alternate universe story is getting longer by the minute. Jack is a lot of fun to write and I think that I'm hammering out his sense of humor -- he actually reminds me a bit of Xander, though they definitely still have huge, major differences.

In the area of receiving gifts, I've gotten some things that I did want very much. My mom continues to show that she knows me very well. My aunt and uncle gave me a beautiful silver dragon earrings and necklace set that they picked up when they were in Ireland. I plan on writing all my 'thank-you's on Sunday and mailing them out Monday.

Twenty-one wasn't bad at all. Stargate, VividCon, weekends at [livejournal.com profile] jic's. Reminding myself how much I care about the world. Not bad at all.

edit: and I posted my Buffy and Xander essay, Heart and Hand -- Inspiration and Action, to [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto at precisely 12:01.
