And vis a vis Stuart waiting for Vince--it's maybe you, me, and Killa who feel that way. It seemed TOTALLY clear to me from viewing the series that they weren't together because of Vince--or rather, because Stuart had figured out that Vince worshipped him to the point where his (Stuart's) liking of Vince would actually DAMAGE him (Stuart) in Vince's eyes. The only way Stuart can have Vince is by not having him, since Vince couldn't admire anyone who wanted him. What kills me is that Stuart knows this so clearly, and it pains him...
I agree so completely. He says it even -- "You can't love him. You can't even respect him. He loves Vince Tyler, so he must be stupid."
Stuart really knows the extent of Vince's underconfidence in himself. He tries sometimes to bolster Vince up, let him know that he does think that Vince is 'fantastic', and Vince is the one who blows off the comments, because he can't believe them to be true. But Vince being able to come out at work was a really good sign, and I find everything that I've read about second series to be fairly hopeful.
The problem is that people buy into Lisa's view of the friendship, or even Cameron's. Cameron tries to tell Stuart that Vince is only friends with him for the hope of a shag (Stuart kills me in that scene -- "He's my friend."). Lisa, with her view of Vince as Stuart's 'acolyte'. Both of underestimate Stuart's regard for Vince. Stuart doesn't do acolytes. He's nothing but impatience for Nathan in worship/stalk mode. Stuart doesn't humor people, not clients and not friends. If someone's pissing him off or boring him, they'll know it. But Vince gets amused tolerance. If Stuart didn't want to learn the names of the Doctor Whos, he wouldn't bother. But he cares enough to know, because it's Vince.
