Yes, it's intensely frustrating for Anakin when he can't do something about a situation. He fixes things, he's a fixer, dammit, give him something to fix. And any action that he does try to take (like protecting Obi-Wan at the very beginning) ends up being rather pointless.
And Obi-Wan without the Force is... hard to write. Because I want to magically give it back to him, but, you know, story. Also, I can't make exceptions for Obi-Wan's character just because I love him best.
