Movie: Iron Man 2 (more thoughts)

butterflyStill have not been able to watch Thor (boo!) but I did rewatch Iron Man 2.
Is the Stark Expo set in the same place that Steve ends up getting recruited at? It would make sense, since Howard was there and showing off. When I was rewatching IM2, it seemed like the same place to me.
The heart metaphor is pretty heavy in IM and IM2. And it's making me think... okay, Iron Man. Tin Man - who needed a heart (except that he had one all along and just needed to realize it). IDK where I'm going with that. Wizard of Oz all up in my head.
I still think Pepper/Tony is doomed in the long run. I mean, I don't know whether or not the movies will break them up, but the dynamics of that relationship just don't seem like they could stabilize on 'healthy couple'. They don't... they don't do anything for each other*. They don't give each other any ~zing. I actually was feeling more zing from Natasha/Tony than I was getting from Pepper/Tony.
I don't know, part of why I can't ship them might be because I don't find Gwyneth Paltrow attractive. I don't dislike her and I think she's generally an okay actress and really good in some parts, but I've never found her attractive. And I have to find both halves of a couple attractive before I can ship them. Part of it might be that, but I also don't find their relationship dynamic to be particularly 'shippable - they don't seem like they would balance each other out at all or... and, really, I'm going back to what I said above. It just doesn't feel like they do anything for each other. And I like relationships where each party has a profound impact on the other person and helps them achieve more than they could by themselves. And I don't get that from Pepper/Tony.
I found Rhodey/Tony slashy in the first movie but they just felt like bros to me in the second one. And I do find Don Cheadle attractive, so I think that's just a different chemistry-vibe going on because of the actor switch-up.
*not meant literally, as they both obviously perform actions that benefit the other person but it's hard to describe what I mean. That's just the sentence that comes most to mind. I mean it more in a... character way. Like, on a narrative-level, Pepper and Tony do things for each other, but on a character-level, I don't feel like they do.
