Gwyneth gets to ding Rose for thinking of her as a bit stupid because Gwyneth comes from an earlier time period and believes in things that Rose doesn't think exist
I like this because it kind of mirrors what a lot of people might think about Rose - that just because she hasn't had that much school it doesn't mean she's stupid. Rose gets called on it from Gwyneth and seems to take it to heart.
I suspect that, until the Doctor, she didn't have anyone who was willing to encourage her to ask questions and slake that enormous curiosity of hers. He was a gift to her in so many ways.
Definitely so. I've been lucky with my schools and teachers, but I can fully imagine that the sort of school Rose went to wouldn't have been the best. My mum used to work in a school in a less-than-pleasant area and it's difficult both for the teachers and the pupils - even the brighter ones.
I would classify Rose as agnostic and the Doctor as atheist, as this point (In S2, though, the Doctor may very well be the First Acolyte of the Church of Rose).
Hee, definitely from the Doctor. And I agree with Rose, too, I think. In my experience (which is admittedly fairly limited), agnosticism (is that a word?) seems quite common over here. Very few people out-and-out say "I'm an atheist" and those that believe will often attend church/wear a cross (although aren't necessarily hugely loud about it). But most people seem to just sort of quietly get on with their lives without really paying much attention to religion. (Although the very fact that it's all fairly quiet means you never quite know until they say something.)
This girl... she gets it. She understands why he travels
*Sighs happily* I know, and I just love those lines. (He pretty much didn't have a chance, did he?)
She's only nineteen... this is, I suspect, something that the Doctor reminds himself of often during the first series. That this human that he's falling in love with is just nineteen.
Yeah, definitely. And I tend to think it's the regeneration that really helps with this - not necessarily because he *looks* younger, but because he's regenerated for her and because of her and influenced by her, and he *feels* younger. In series 2, anyway!
And echoing the love for the "go down fighting" scene.
Long comment is long...
