I love this episode for what it does with the Doctor/Rose relationship. Their arguments--the few real arguments they have--are so bruising because Billie and Chris sell them so beautifully. These two incredibly strong-willed people butt heads, yet still care about each other, and that caring only grows deeper as they continue to know each other.
I actually started off the series not thinking Billie was very pretty. I didn't think she was ugly or anything, but her face really shouldn't work. Yet somehow, with her personality to animate it, she *is* beautiful. The way her eyes light up, her smile--she's stunning, and so much more expressive and dynamic than most actresses who are more conventionally beautiful. Which makes her an excellent match for CE, who, again, isn't so conventionally handsome, but somehow becomes absolutely beautiful the more you watch him.
