The Bourne Ultimatum

First, though, I must share a disturbing thought -- there was a trailer for a movie (I don't remember the title). Tom Cruise is in this movie (sorta looks like a bad guy/antagonist) and... he looks hot. I got so used to him looking crazy! My world is askew.

And now, Bourne was genuinely kick-ass. Truly delightful. I would definitely, whole-heartedly recommend it.

Even the one bad thing that I'd heard about the movie (slight camera shakiness) worked for me. All of the actual content of the movie was just spectacular. Joan Allen and Julia Stiles were magnificant -- loved the pivotal roles that they played. And, of course, there's the fantastic Matt Damon.

The movie had me on the edge of my seat and I was grinning and laughing and cheering at parts. Whenever Jason did something particularly clever, the entire audience was just delighted and made it known. I loved that he managed to reach the 'asset' at the end of the movie ("why didn't you take the shot?" "do you even know why you're supposed to kill me?") and I loved that both Nicky and Landy both made it out of the film intact and in secure positions (adored Nicky's smirk when she heard the news about Jason/David -- lovely. And I found both haircuts on her to be extremely adorable... also, I feel that there's untold Nicky backstory regarding the way she was acting around Jason).

I love that the ghost of Marie was just as strong a presence in this movie as the last one. Unlike other action heroes, Jason Bourne doesn't pick up a new girl every movie -- he fell in love, damnit, and it matters. I love that. I love the way the movie ended as the series began -- with Jason/David in the water, about to start a new phase of his life.

I thought Tom Cruise was hot in Collateral :/

I've seen all the Bourne movies so far and am looking forward to Ultimatum hitting the theaters here in Holland!

It disturbs me when Tom Cruise is hot.

The Bourne trilogy is... wonderful. And Ultimatum is a wonderfully strong finish. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

ITA agree with this review. As I said in my post, my bad seat made the shaky camera a real problem for me, but that just made me annoyed that I couldn't move back and enjoy the movie a bit more. As it was I was still enjoying it and being roused out of my discomfort by Jason's better moments.

I usually don't like Julia Stiles, but I liked her here--especially when she had stripey hair.;-) I liked the female roles all around--one could probably write some interesting meta on the male/female split actually...

I found that very intriguing. Both of our female federal people ended up on the good side of things. Plus, the continuing importance of Marie after her death also makes me think. What I need to do is rewatch the entire trilogy in one sitting.

Oh, yes, I watched it yesterday, and I loved it for the same reasons you write here. I loved that it was a battle of smart people and the main weapon was not a gun, but a cellphone, and I loved that Landy and Nicky were very capable for their places. I mean, when Nicky is trying to escape Desh in Tangier, it is obvious that he has a huge advantage of her, yet she is not doing "silly damsel" thing, but doing to best to outrun and outsmart him.

plus, huge Matt Damon love. ;)

*nods*

Both Nicky and Landry were very strong characters, with their brains as their biggest assets. Great work on the parts of both Joan and Julia.

And Matt Damon is always fantastic. I love his work.

Maybe it's the movie where he's a nazi? Or - um - wait, no, I think he's a good guy in that one.

It appeared to be about Iraq and he was a war-justifying Senator.

Oh yeah, I saw that later. He is finally starting to look his age.

Yeah. I was thinking that the camera work especially at the beginning would probably do you in ;)

Yeah, that would probably be a good idea. Great movie... shaky camerawork.

I loved this movie! The fight scene was amazing and the car chases were definitely nail biters! :) I loved it.

It was a fabulous movie! And that had to be the toughest police car ever -- it got in, what, four collisions before it finally bit the dust?

I thought the hand to hand combat scenes were just amazing, the blurry slow mo style made it even more intense. How about the confrontation between Jason and the Asset who was after Nicky? Smart, brutal, intense.
