I have to go to work. I can't stay home and watch this forty more times and give you marvelous feedback.

I love this.

Oh holy shit. With the candles! And the glances, and the touching, and Vecchio woven in with Victoria and all of it backstory and nowstory....WOW. This has inspired me to do a set of dS visual media recs, because yeah. Wow.

Thank you!

This partly started when I was watching Call of the Wild and said, "huh, you know, the look on Fraser's face is really reminding me of Victoria's Secret."

Oh, so good. So good! And you've used footage that I haven't seen six billion times and the mood and the pacing and the everything! So much love there. This was fantastic!

Will you put a link up at [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard? Because you really, really should.

Thank you!

I wanted the vid to be more about the little moments, though the big moments are still important. Like Fraser and RayK opening doors together or handing each other coffee and just being there. And it helped that I very deliberately set the vid before their flight up to Canada, because that all gets used a lot in vids and their story is still strong enough without it.

Also, I went ahead and followed your advice and linked to the vid over on [livejournal.com profile] ds_noticeboard.

I wandered over here today and saw this vid. It blows me away. I never ever thought of Victoria and Vecchio in that light before. This is just a great vid.

[identity profile] butterfly.livejournal.com 2005-11-18 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

And yes, the similarities between Victoria and Vecchio and the way they affected Fraser is something that I think about sometimes, so making the vid is also a way of showing people exactly why I think those things.

This is an awesome vid. It's got great pacing, clear pictures, and I love the whole idea of Fraser being afraid, but still taking chances. Thanks so much for sharing. Being the greedy person I am, I hope you do more.

Thank you. I'm so glad that you liked it, and that the premise of the vid makes sense. It's a really big part of how I see Fraser in the series.

Hopefully, I'll do another dS vid. I adore the show. So far, I've done ten vids in nine different fandoms. It all depends on hearing a song that speaks to me of a character or situation.

Gorgeous vid. Loved the song and the inclusion of Victoria and RayV as part of what's shaped Fraser's view of RayK. That's one of the unique things about Fraser - he's had a lot of ups and downs in his life, has not been lucky in love - but he still retains a big portion of his innocence. Lovely pacing and use of clips, too.

I'm assuming that a lot of this footage is from the fourth season (which I haven't seen yet). I sort of drifted away from dS for awhile, but this makes me want to order the 4th season right away and watch the first 3 over again while I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Thanks!

[identity profile] butterfly.livejournal.com 2005-11-19 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

That's one of the things that I really love about Fraser. He goes through so much, but he still has this inner core of Who He Is.

Quite a bit of the footage is from the fourth season. The fourth season had a lot of shots that felt... intimate in this quieter way (as well as some huge gestures that I didn't put in the vid). Like Fraser going over to the beverage table apparently for the sole purpose of pouring Ray a cup of coffee.

I did not watch the whole thing because I've only seen part of S1, but I did check the file.

I am incoherent, *incoherent* with the squee. I especially like the movement and graphic matches you did. Like, oh, when Ray K turns from kissing Luanne to look at Fraser, and you cut to Fraser turning to look at Ray. You do a lot of those type of things and it really helps to tie the vid together. And the narrative! That is my DS canon, for sure. ::fangirls::

Wow. Just...wow. Incredible, incredible vid. I've watched it over and over several times now, enjoying it even more each time. The first time I watched it, I was really enjoying the references to first Victoria and then RayV as Fraser's past (failed) romantic history - and then you did the mix of Fraser thinking he saw Victoria/RayV, chasing them, and then coming face to face with them - and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. That was *genius*, absolute genius. The parallels just blew me away. I had tears in my eyes at several points. And then the Fraser/RayK interactions, the ups and downs reflecting the singer's doubts about romance, but coming together at the end - *satisfied smile and mushy sigh*.
ext_1774: butterfly against blue background (Default)

[identity profile] butterfly.livejournal.com 2005-11-19 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

Part of it comes from the fact that I actually do like Victoria. I think that her character makes sense and that she did care about Fraser, if not as much as she cared about herself and her revenge. So, I was open to comparing her to Vecchio, who I also like quite a bit. I don't think that either of them was at all right for Fraser, but I do think that they showed us a lot of important things about Fraser and that they each taught Fraser very different, but still important things, RayV about friendship and trust, Victoria about the dangers of trusting the wrong person and about the way love can burn too hard and painful.

And then, with RayK, passion and trust could merge, be in the same person.

[identity profile] bonspiel.livejournal.com 2005-11-20 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
This is *wow* - really great. The pacing with the song, and the parallels that you're drawing between Fraser's relationships with Victoria, RayV, and RayK; very insightful, and like someone else commented, this feels like 'my canon'. Bravo.

[identity profile] butterfly.livejournal.com 2005-11-21 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

I'm so glad that you liked and that you felt like it was true to the characters. This is really, in a lot of ways, exactly how I see Fraser... romantic heart, as it were, and the whys of Fraser/RayK, how it's all tied up in what happened before.

What everyone else said! The vid is just incredible! Omg, I love the Victoria-Vecchio parallels. Fraser catching glimpses of each, running after both of them. And the way Vecchio getting shot in CotW echoes Fraser getting shot in Victoria's Secret. I'd never made either of those connections before. *adores wildly* Thank you!!

I'm really fond of those parts of the vids, too. It's something that I saw in the show, but had a hard time articulating, so getting the chance to use music to illustrate just what it was that I was seeing was a great opportunity.

I just remembered that I haven't given you feedback on this vid, which is a shame because it's *wonderful.* So, so perfectly Fraser, and the clips you used--every single one of them packed a punch. the sequence of Fraser running after Victoria against Fraser running after Vecchio especially. Great vid!
