Life Update: We have worms.

Which is to say, we bought a pound of red wiggler worms and are now engaged in the practice known as vermicomposting. In other words, I've got a whole bunch of worms in a tub of stuff that I want them to make dirt out of. Seems to be going well enough so far.

Also, I'm considering changing my work schedule, playing around with the idea of working day shift (I currently work 5-11pm, Sun-Thurs). The reason is that I'm in the process of getting a dog.

Which is to say, I'm buying everything said dog will need before I even start looking at dogs (I'm going to get one at the local animal shelter). I've been feeling the urge to have a dog for a few months now and it's getting more and more urgent by the day. I've been dog-less for too long, I tell you.

In other news, I'm currently working on a Smallville vid.

Ooh cool, worms! I'd be very interested to hear how it works for you etc. How did you get into it, and were there any particularly good books or websites on the subject?

I see that Jo already gave you the link -- I actually discovered the article at the Portland's First Muddy Boot Organic Festival thing that I mentioned a little while back -- they had local organic-related newspapers on the table and there was a very interesting set of articles about worms.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks! I'll be interested to hear more about it. :-)

My mama has worms! She loves them dearly and they make wonderful wonderful soil! I wish I had an amusing worm icon to use here.

Heh, now I want an amusing worm icon. Everyone should have one! Yay for worms!

Just a warning, watch how much stuff you put in before the earlier stuff is fully processed... Elsewise you can end up with moldy veggiebits and lots of dead worms. :(

Not that this is experience talking, or anything. Nope.

Thanks for the advice. I will do my best to be careful -- these are my first worms, so I wouldn't want to kill them off.

Pets are wonderful! I just went and looked at dogs this weekend. Haven't found the right one yet, but we're going again next Saturday for another try.

Cats are quite spiffy, too. My parents each have a cat, so I spend time with one whenever I visit one of them and don't feel deprived.
