And Stefan is now becoming more and more invested in what happens to his brother - because he is seeing what Katherine meant to Damon.
Stefan was compelled to love Katherine, but not Damon, and now that he knows that, Stefan is seeing the damage she left.
And Stefan wants to be able to try to fix that damage, or at least rebuild from it, so that he can get his brother back.
