Battlestar Galactica: Daybreak (part the last, ever)
So, my interest plummeted around the fifty minute mark for reasons that I'm sure y'all can guess.
Oh, baby, they really set you up for a horrible fate no matter what. If you didn't have control and tried your hardest, people were cold. When you didn't have control and unwillingly committed a terrible crime, you were never forgiven, despite the ability of people to later forgive those complicit in genocide (which you weren't). Any time you tried to do good, it all went wrong, but when you gave up and went bad, it still went wrong. You never got a chance. And I never stopped loving you.
*sigh*
The flashbacks were also made of a lot of awesome. Enjoyed those (especially Lee actually articulating my frustration at Adama -- the writers do know. They don't seem to care, but they know). I'm not a big fan of shoot'em'ups, so that part was pretty lost on me.
I was pleased at the Caprica/Gauis reunion and Lee has very amusing hair.
Interest rose slightly when Helo got shot (am vindicative, apparently) and Hera ran off.
And again when she ran away from Roslin. Didn't the dream have her end up with Caprica and Gaius? Oh, look, there she is!
The Opera House stuff was really enjoyable.
Okay, I loved Gaius' speech.
When Tyrol snapped and started killing Tory for killing Cally and then the entire bridge broke out into shooting, I giggled.
When Cavil shot himself, I flat-out laughed. That probably wasn't the desired reaction, but I can't be sure. Maybe it was.
The Kara-music-Dad thing was sweet, though, and interesting. Kara Thrace, congrats, I still care about you and want you to succeed! This is better than the majority of the characters right now are doing.
Yay, more flashbacks! I'm really enjoying those, actually.
Really, all the trailers being shown are almost my favorite part -- the new ST trailer showed McCoy introducing himself to Kirk!
And, thankfully, there was a trailer for Kings. I'm got my fingers crossed for that ratings boost. I want my new show of awesome to live!
So, I kinda spent the first part of the ending rolling my eyes at the sap and wishing that the planet would blow up for some excitement. Probably not the best response.
Also, does this mean we get to blame the BSG crew for making the human race fuck up the environment?
And the flashback reveals that Adama has always been just this self-righteous! A test that countless other people have taken, but Bill Adama is too good for it.
Tyrol going off all by himself made me want to give him the biggest hug. And his little bemused noise, since he's well aware that Tigh, you know, killed Ellen that once.
Ellen and Tigh got a happy ending, it looks like. I'm happy for them, I truly am. They're dysfunctional, but sweet.
I was amused by Adama declaring that this is so Earth. And I'm glad that Roslin had someone with her as she died (much as I wish their relationship had started when they weren't the two heads of government).
The Adama/Roslin-Lee/Kara goodbye was actually kinda sweet... and then Lee reminded me of what a cruddy father his dad always was. Lee's hair remains amusing.
And then Lee went all adorable and... huh. Okay, Kara = angel, then? She did die back then, really and truly. I'm actually surprised, show, good job!
Really enjoyed the Roslin flashbacks.
Um... the wedding ring thing kinda creeped me out, I have to say. If you want to marry someone, ask them before they die, don't shove the ring on afterwards. I know that it was supposed to be touching, but... creeped out!
The trailer for BSG: The Plan made me crack up. Seriously, laughing so hard, because they so did not. At least, not a coherent and consistent one.
Wow, my investment in the Helo-Athena happiness is pretty much nil.
Caprica and Gaius ending up together was pretty sweet, though.
Angel!Gaius and Caprica were cute, as well. If a bit anvil-y.
Have to say, though, I didn't end up caring about exploring this universe any further. It feels done. Finished.

For what it's worth, I had the same reaction.

Well, in all fairness to the Cylons, they only ever claimed to have a plan, not a particularly good plan.
I am going to watch that, though, just to see how they manage to retcon all that into a coherent storyline.

Hee! True and a good point.

I dunno. It might have been. I went, "Ha!"
I felt like the episode was a good mix of dark & light. For 2 hours they couldn't go in all doom & gloom all the time, so they spiced it up well--in my opinion-- with bits of good natured humor along with all the death.

My biggest interest was shot several times in the stomach, so it was harder for me to be pleased about the big happy ending, I think.
I might try rewatching it in a couple of weeks, and see if I like it more if I already know that Boomer dies and have already processed that, so that it's not quite so much like getting my heart ripped out.

Sorry, my bitterness is showing. I should not post about this for a little bit, I think.

Hee! See, I didn't put that together, but you're right!
I don't think Boomer was going to avoid what ended up happening to her, no matter what, but at least she made her own choice?

They are so dysfunctional! But they'll be happy, for the time they have left.

I guess I don't get why Boomer never gets to be forgiven, but Athena and Caprica do. If you help kill enough people, it's like not killing at all? I don't get that (and Boomer tried the whole 'sitting in the brig' for ages thing and got shot by Cally for it, so that didn't work out too well for her, but worked out fine for Athena and Caprica). It just feels like she was created for the sole purpose of the show kicking her around, which makes me grumpy.
I mean, I don't get why we should be happy that Athena is so much less forgiving than all the people who forgave her. I mean, Adama could have shot her when she gave up herself like Boomer did here, but he didn't do that. He gave Athena a chance, but she couldn't give Boomer one. The visceral voice of violent revenge was too strong.

That was my reaction too. My viewing companion and I were both like, "Um... LOL?" I think, partly because it just seemed so sudden, and he made such a disgusted face when he did it.
Have to say, though, I didn't end up caring about exploring this universe any further. It feels done. Finished.
I think that's what bugs me about the ending. In one way, I appreciate that they ended it and drew things to a close, but in another way it seems like they also killed it. Not only are the characters not in space anymore, but they're also not together - that's the part that really gets me.

I'm relieved that so many people had a similar reaction!

Yes. Which was an interesting choice considering all the spin-off and alt. PoV stuff that they seem to have coming up.

We're rewatching the mini & S1 right now and it's really hitting me, how much she suffered and went through and I don't know if she ever got peace, in the end. I like to hope so, but I don't know. :( And she tried, she really did, it just never worked.
It does feel finished, for me, though perhaps in a better way than for other people. I really enjoyed it, though. And I think it's the best show I've watched on TV in quite awhile, in terms of depth. Other shows are good as well, but not quite as deep as Battlestar has been.

I just... it hurts so much because I connected so hard with her back in S1. I think I would have been happier if they hadn't brought her back. Having Athena shoot her and Athena's happy ending coming true was just... most of the time, I like Athena, but this week it was painful to see her smiling at the end of the episode, when she showed herself so completely void of compassion and forgiveness earlier. Sure, she'll teach Hera to hunt, but she's not going to teach her to give a damn about other people.
I just... Boomer is frickin' Charlie Brown and Athena/the show is Lucy. Every time she goes for the ball, it gets pulled away and she lands on her ass.
