The forces of good have triumphed over the forces of... not very nice!
My ability to access my livejournal and email was... hindered when I discovered that my passwords had stopped working. I had to go to class, so everything got put on hold for a bit. Luckily, when I got home, I remembered that my original email address that I validated the account with was not the current one and was able to request a password reset from that older email address (which y'all may remember -- butterfly_in_motion@hotmail.com).
Nothing on my journal was appears to have changed except for the new email that the person added. Perhaps they simply didn't have time to make changes. Regardless of the reasons, I'm really happy about that and have deleted their email and their ability to use either that address or butterflydm as ways of getting my new password.
I may or may not be able to recover butterflydm@gmail.com, so I'm also using butterflyforreal@gmail.com for now. I will keep y'all apprised of the situation.
Edit: And now gmail has finished investigating my report of my email being snagged and returned access to me so that I can reset the password and such things on butterflydm. Sweet.

I hadn't thought of also reporting the person to the email provider. That's a good idea, thank you.

Thank you! It was such a relief when I realized that I could go find my earlier email to get my lj account back and then when gmail responded so quickly to my report of hostile takeover.

Whoever 'violentmarv' is, I gave LJ their email, so if they try to pull something again, there's already a record in place. I'm still awash in a sea of bafflement, though.

It was a very tense night.

I'm glad Gmail got right on it, though. Tip o' the hat to them!

I'd have been so frustrated if I'd lost my ability to go over my old posts and had to find all of my friends all over again.
