The movie version of Stardust does take some liberties with the ending, which if you intend to read the graphic novel/book I won't spoil for you.
There are some ways TPTB at Who could satisfy the fans' urge to see the Doctor reunited with his Rose - specifically Ten, at any rate - that I've gotten into in some other folks' journals (and I think on my own as well) so I'll refrain from boring you with the details here. I just think from a story perspective that they need to resolve the situation while David Tennant is still in the role, because the viewer wouldn't really get any resonance from seeing a future Doctor who has no established onscreen relationship with Rose either a) pine for her or b) be reunited with her. This is especially true for the children who make up a large segment of the viewership.
