First things first:

Rose! I miss you so much! Billie! Can't you come back? Please?

Everything else:

I actually really enjoyed the episode. Donna grew nicely as a character from start to finish and her disinterest in the end for traveling with the Doctor pointed out just why Rose is different from the average girl (I loved, in particular, the reason that Donna mentioned -- that for her, the terror outweighed the wonder). And the Doctor! I loved him so much in this. Going full-tilt into the mystery, missing Rose, being the last of his people -- David Tennant was gold.

I... cried. Out loud. When the Doctor saw the blonde girl and thought of Rose, I actually gasped (attracting the attention of [livejournal.com profile] jic) and then started sniffling so hard that I had to pause the episode (then she wanted to see what was affecting me so much and we ended up starting the episode over from the beginning). So, yes. His grief felt very real.

But however much I enjoyed the episode and have decided that I can watch the Doctor without Rose, I missed her terribly. Nearly as much as he did, I'd say.

Which takes me back to the beginning:

Oh, Rose. Can't you come back?

Amen, and amen. I haven't gotten to see it yet, being away for Christmas, but [livejournal.com profile] mrv3000 has given me the basics. And while I think I can deal with the Doctor without Rose, I really, seriously don't want to. Wah.

Seeing the Doctor without Rose was such sadness. I loved that RTD respected the relationship that he'd set up with them... but the Doctor was so sad and aching without her.

Yup yup. Rose actually loved that life, in spite of the terror. Very similar attitude to the Doctor, in that regard. I couldn't help but think of Rose bouncing in New Earth, with the "I'll never get used to this! Never!" and the "I love this. Traveling with you, I love it!" She totally mirrored his passion for it.

Have the feeling I'll be watching. Damn DW addiction! :D

That was one of the many reasons that they felt so suited. She loved seeing new planets, meeting new people, enjoyed the thrill of danger, and the giddy joy of being able to help people.

And I don't know what Martha will be like, but I have a feeling that they won't try to mirror Rose's journey -- Martha being a hopeful doctor means that she already has a career path set out that she wants to follow -- RTD showed me in Bride that he completely understands what made Rose and the Doctor so wonderful together.

Yes, I miss Rose terribly. I love her, despite some people being very dismissive of her. I think she was a great companion because she just jumped in with both feet and went for it. I love that.

Oh Billie, why did you have to leave???

I felt that Rose was an absolutely terrific companion -- and a friend of mine, who is a DW fan from way back, says that she thinks Rose is one of the best companions ever and she's saying that from a completely non-shippery point of view (mine is completely tainted by shipperness, I freely admit).

And I very much miss Billie. She had such a fantastically warm presence.

Yes, I'm a complete shipper as well, so we share that in common. I also think that Billie had fantastic chemistry with both Christopher and David, which really sold me on their relationship.

She really did. Both Christopher and David just really sparked off Billie and both teams just had an amazing vibe of closeness.
