Oct. 13th, 2003 10:51 pmJC was on Wade's show tonight?
I missed Justin on SNL, too. A couple of years ago, I would have been all over that stuff.
It's not that I love their music or them any less, but I just can't work up the Need! It!Now! level of excitement that I used to have for them. I'm all, "that's cool, that would be neat to see sometime."
Could just be a cycle. I had a low period in my Buffy love a while back and now it's bigger than ever (Buffy rules! I heart her! Xander is the Best!Guy!Ever! Angel is hot! Whoo! Spike's vaguely interesting! Wesley's so pretty!).
But Buffy was my first online fandom. It was my first and greatest passion as a fan. 'The first cut is the deepest', indeed. Sometimes I wonder if any show can have the same effect. It's these characters, these writers, this world that I adore beyond any fantasy world before or since. Other passions fade in time, but Buffy's kept a flame burning in my heart for over six years. that's 3/10ths of my life so far. And Buffy ending didn't quench the flame. I don't think that Angel ending will either. In Buffy, I see countless ways to explore the human condition and my own heart and soul. It touches me on every level, from the superficial to the philosophical. From the head to the heart. Every time that I watch any episode, I see something new in the Buffyverse. Every rewatch adds more depth to this already 3D, technicolor world. And now that the initial viewing is complete, when I go back and rewatch, every character is precious to me. Every moment has something of value to offer.
In the end, everything means something, because every moment is another building block in this world. In watching the DVDs, I haven't wanted to skip past a single episode. Because the tale of Buffy in Sunnydale is complete, every story told within it is precious to me.
Everything feels like a gift.
I like that feeling.
