Five Fandom Opinions

I gave some thought to doing the 'unpopular fandom opinions' meme but a) it seems like too much work figuring out which of my opinions are popular and which aren't (though one or two are guaranteed - yay for Eve) and b) y'all probably know most of them anyway.

Five Fandom Opinions (that I don't mention much)

1) I prefer Ezri Daz to Jadzia Dax (Deep Space 9).

2) The writers made the right choice in killing off Jonathan and in keeping Andrew (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

3) Like my mom, I miss Cordy not at all (Angel). Actually, it's kinda nice not to have her around, being bitchy and never getting called on it.

4) The John/Aeryn thing is too easy (Farscape). And that sounds silly, given all they go through, but it's too easy. She's too human-looking for me to ever take her seriously as an alien and so the entire relationship feels false and fake and... easy. It feels like the easy writing choice - stick him with a girl who looks human.

5) Ross and Rachel are as exciting as counting the number of holes that are in a ceiling when you're too sick to move and have nothing else to do (Friends). And if anyone ever calls me their lobster, there will be eye-rolling and then avoidance.

Oh, and I haven't seen most of Season Three of Angel, so I was hoping someone could place a moment for me. Wesley's holding Connor and Angel kisses Connor on the cheek and it's ten kinds of adorable. Anyone know where that's from? It kills me even out of context.

I think it's from "Sleep Tight" right before Wesley takes Connor away and get's his throat slashed. He askes is Angel want's to say goodbye to Connor for the evening.

Yo!

2) The writers made the right choice in killing off Jonathan and in keeping Andrew (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

*cries* Sad, but that's probably true.

3) Like my mom, I miss Cordy not at all (Angel). Actually, it's kinda nice not to have her around, being bitchy and never getting called on it.

Feh, I can live without her.

5) Ross and Rachel are as exciting as counting the number of holes that are in a ceiling when you're too sick to move and have nothing else to do (Friends). And if anyone ever calls me their lobster, there will be eye-rolling and then avoidance.

Shit, is that show still running?!

I don't watch Farscape or Friends (although I'm planning on catching up on Farscape at some point), so I can't comment on those. I'm all over your first three, though. I never liked Jadzia, but I adored Ezri. Andrew became one of my most favorite characters ever. And Cordy was just ruined in the last two seasons of Angel, to the point that I can't even look on earlier episodes without my opinion being affected. Bah. I prefer the show without her.

No, I think Wesley actually hands over Conner to Angel to say goodbye in that scene.

I think the one you're thinking of (it's used in a popular vid, which might be where you saw it?) is from the beginning of "Sleep Tight." Weley's all anxious about the Loa prophesy, and asking if he can take Conner to the park sometime, and Angel's all hepped up on the spiked blood, bouncing around, talking about child-proofing the hotel. And how Conner seems to like Wesley. Awww.

I wasn't unhappy about Cordelia leaving either. But that's mostly because of her S3 characterization- I'm sure you've heard all of the snide "St. Cordelia" remarks, even if you haven't caught all of the episodes.

(Also, I think the lobster thing is kinda romantic. Because I am a dork. //hides in shame)

I'm right there with you on Andrew vs. Jonathan. Not that I didn't love Jonathan and all, but if they'd kept him, they'd have been going over familiar ground. Keeping "Tucker's brother" kept things fresh, and besides, Andrew actually turned out to have character. Rather endearing character, when all was said and done, actually.

As for Ross and Rachel: they're half the reason I stopped watching "Friends."

1) I prefer Ezri Daz to Jadzia Dax (Deep Space 9).

That's exactly how I feel. Jadzia always bothered me. It's just too bad that Ezri didn't have much time on the show, since she came in later. I didn't think that was entirely fair.

So agreeing on Andrew. So disagreeing on Dax.
Hmm, on Cordy... I like the S5 dynamic very much, and it would be completely altered if she were still there. But I miss her pre-Jasmine self in that I remember how cool she was and wish there could be more of her.

Agree with 2, 4 and 5. Not seen enough of ezri dax to have an opinion. And I miss Cordy.

Wesley's holding Connor and Angel kisses Connor on the cheek and it's ten kinds of adorable.

Just for a moment there, I though you meant teenage Connor. Because that would make me so so very happy.

But yeah, I think the bit you mean is from Sleep Tight.

Well, I certainly agree with 3. I never got the fuss over Cordy or why people thought she was so great.

I need to see Sleep Tight. Man, Angel needs to come out sooner on dvd.

*sniffle*

The cuteness!

(and yeah, I saw the moment in a vid)

Ezri was so cute and sweet and tough.

And I love Jonathan, but his story was over. He finally redeemed himself not through a big gesture. Jonathan's story was about how the big gesture isn't the point.

Yeah. It's, like, the tenth season. Man.

Ezri and Andrew are both bundles of cute.

And I wasn't Cordy's biggest fan even before her personality change, so, yeah. Never was a big loss. I liked her sometimes with Xander and I love/hate her for the fuck-job she did on Connor, but was never a fan.

I have. Also St. Corduffy (or whatever - it was some melding of Buffy and Cordy's name) which always confused me, as Buffy has never been presented as a saint.

Andrew was a new story. And really, there was no way that Andrew could have died down there. Jonathan never would have done that.

I watched first season and the season finale made me go, nah, I won't bother getting season two from netflix. And it was all the R/R thing.

I'm very glad that they brought her in, though. They could have not had a new Dax.

Oh, I like Jadzia. I just like Ezri more. But it's the cute factor. Jadzia was much more of the 'striking' type than the 'cute' type and I like cute.

Never really got the coolness of Cordy. I like her well enough at times, but not in a way that meant I'd ever want to meet her in real life.

Ezri's highly cute. She's like an adorable kitten.

Oh! I love that icon. Fred with a gun is always a good thing.

But yeah, Cordy was just... she was fine as a supporting character. When she was a Buffy-shadow, a might have been. But when they put her in the light, you could really see the places where she didn't fit.

[identity profile] inyron.livejournal.com 2003-12-03 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think *that* was in response to the blonde hair and the weapons training. And the talk of her being a champion. Some people felt Cordelia was being changed in order to better fit the role of "Angel's romantic interest."

[identity profile] butterfly.livejournal.com 2003-12-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I think she probably was. They wanted C/A to fly.

[identity profile] jeannie-82.livejournal.com 2003-12-04 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad they brought her in, too. She was cute. However, I just wish that they could have brought her in sooner. She's so much better than Jadzia. Jadzia didn't do all that much, and most of her storylines were rather boring. That and I found her to be rather annoying.

But somehow, I don't think the show would have been the same without a Dax.
