butterfly: (Writing - due South)

Yeah, I'm checking on google and such, but if anyone has any useful and accurate links/info, I am all eyes.

Specifically, I appear to be writing an actual case-file-type due South fic. There's a plot. There's a criminal. There's another Mountie. There's wackiness. There's also first-time sex, which is yay.

It's set post-CotW, when Benton Fraser is traveling with RayK and runs across a Mountie in a town. Said Mountie has heard of Fraser and asks for his help on something -- shouldn't take too long, he says. Dangerous criminal, he adds. This is not something Fraser can say no to, especially when Ray jumps right into the idea.

Anyway, it's set up in the Northern Territories. So that's what I'd be wanting to know more about. Again, like I said, I'm googling, but there's only so much google can do.

You might want to look at the RCMP website and at specific towns and places there. I found the Old Crow website very helpful (Yukon, but still within theoretical range of the story I was working on), not only for its own info but for its links.

Thank you kindly.

It's just like Benton Fraser to be the first character to make me do extensive homework for a fic. Also? The man never shuts up, lord love him. I've no clue how long this thing is going to end up being. His mere presence complicates everything.

He *always* does.

My own (unfinished) story is well over 100 pages single-spaced. He decided to shut up two scenes from the end. I started it five years ago...

Very annoying. That is just like Fraser. Well, if he shuts up on me, I will kick him in the head.

He just... notices things. How he can notice things when I don't is beyond me. He notices things that I wouldn't notice if they smacked me upside the head.

Has he awakened you in the middle of the night yet? Now *that's* annoying! Of course, if you ever do get him to shut up then Ray is likely to start talking. He has to get a word in when he's got the chance. :-)

He's kept me up all night, but hasn't actually gotten me up in the middle of the night yet.

Yet.

And yeah, Ray chatters away whenever Ben shuts up. Both of them are very vocal. Which is good, but also very annoying. I do love them so.

Wait until you try to get them to have sex. They have to talk and talk and talk before they'll get down to business.

Yes, I was lucky enough to write an established relationship sex scene before. First-time is showing itself to be like pulling teeth. Why Fraser can't just jump Ray is beyond me.

Because that would be too easy. One thing we know about both of these two guys is they want to make you work for it.

So very true.

Sadly, that's part of what makes them so appealing.

I have nothing worthwhile to contribute here other than a general EEEEE! for more due South fic. But still, an EEEEE! is good for something, yeah?

Encouragement is always a good.

It's already six pages. I started it last night. And it's not even a tenth of the way finished. Hell, I'm still jumping around finishing the outline.

What kinds of things in particular are you wanting to know more about? I've still got my massive collection of bookmarks from when I was writing End of the Road, many of which relate to various aspects of life in the NWT, and I'd love to pass them along, especially if they'd help in the production of new stories!

I'd love to have more information on the landscape of the NWT, as well as likely dangers. Information on storms and what experienced persons do in such situations would be welcome.

It'd be nice to have little bits of 'daily life in the territories' throughout, as well. It's Fraser-pov and he would definitely know what he was doing.
