Buffy-and-Xander's friendship drives me nuts. There are times when I have truly despised Xander, but then there are the times when he seems to be the only one Buffy can depend on.
And all his behavior towards her springs from a very honest (and frustrating) place -- she is his hero. He vocalizes this in season four, but it's always true. He'll always be her most faithful friend, but he also expects more from her than anyone else.
Clark and Lex fascinate me whenever they're in a room together. Passionate sure is the word.

The more characters have invested emotionally in each other the more interesting things get. The higher the drama quotient, too. I relate to passionate characters with very intense emotions which is why I like to watch them so much.
