Ooooh, I just love when Jack is so sly. Especially when he outsmarts Daniel like this. This is really wonderful--such a terrific Jack-voice! He knows Daniel so well, and the affection really comes through.
That's really what I love about them so much. They have this deep connection and they know each other so well, so they can annoy and frustrate each other and still know that that love isn't going anywhere. They have such trust in each other. And Jack's a great character. He's very much about showing his care as opposed to talking about it. I like that his idea of sappy deathbed talk was to call Daniel a pain in the ass and say that he might have admired him a little, all the while showing his deep respect and love for Daniel by doing everything he can to salvage at least Daniel's reputation.
Of course he's watching Daniel's six. (I chose to interpret that in a very non-genfic way.*g*)
