Ares and Xena really snuck up on me, too. They were so smart-ass with each other for so long, and then came the episode where Xena died, and he knelt beside her and started rocking himself over her body, and... yeoww. Everything about them is OTT, but it worked. Like a... Greek tragedy, or something. ;-)
