Another thing to remember about Bonnie attacking Damon at the carnival is that she said 'you'll do this. For Elena' in re: Damon giving Caroline his blood, but that he had framed it as a favor to her. So she was tied up in that decision, and it was just as much on her as on Damon that Caroline became a vampire instead of a corpse. She had him do the unpleasant thing, and then couldn't deal with the consequences. By the end of the season (and when Damon tortures Mason) she and he are working together to do the hard jobs and have an agreement to keep the 'innocents' out of it.
True. Bonnie really grows up and learns to accept the consequences of her own choices over S2, rather than blaming everything that happens on Damon.
I like that we see Damon sorting things out so early on re: the Lockwoods. He has priorities and they are a)protect family b) protect the town c) have a good time along the way. And, when Caroline becomes a threat, he doesn't think 'oh, we must make it all better' he again is reacting practically.
Yeah, right now he can afford to be very practically-minded because he has a very limited circle of people that he's actively trying to protect - things are a touch more complicated for him at the end of the season because of the increase in people that he's willing to make sacrifices for.
Finally, Jeremy and Damon - a relationship that I hope they dwell on in S3. Because, Jeremy has been thrown into this world where he loses people and has been growing up very fast.
I definitely hope we get some good D/J interaction and exploration in S3. Because when they do get scenes together, they are always excellent. Damon, more than anyone else on the show, has helped Jeremy grow up.
