checked out The Borgias

So, I had a couple of free hours (which is to say, I got tired of working on my school stuff and stole a couple of hours) and instead of doing other useful, non-school things - I watched the pilot episode of The Borgias.

Um, okay. Wow.

So, I don't know overly much about this time period, but my assumption regarding the show is that they will probably be roughly as 'accurate' as Rome (which I loved, including some of the changes) and I'll probably feel the urge to get some books from the library at some point to see what they did change.

The pilot was really good, I thought. While I'm not certain who the show is supposed to be 'about', I'm hoping that it will mainly be about Cesare and Lucrezia. Separately or together; it doesn't matter. They are both awesome characters and I tentatively dub them my favorites.

They also kinda have crazy amounts of chemistry. From the little that I recall of the Borgia family, this seems like it might be intentional. I'm pretty sure that Cesare is in love with his sister, is what I'm saying. Her feelings might be more innocent (she's a lot younger than he is, I think, and her peeking in on Cesare kinda reminded me of River Tam from Firefly) than his, though.

I really like Cesare. Despite the fact that I kinda think he seems epically more fucked-up than Simon Tam (which is to say, I do not think Simon would/could ever 'go there' with River, canonically, but I would not rule it out for Cesare. Just based on what I've seen), I'm loving his character.

Obviously, I've missed having a weekly dose of immoral historical figures (no, Damon and Stefan Salvatore don't count. They are vampires, which makes them my weekly dose of amoral supernatural characters) since Rome was cut so tragically short (seriously, I could have easily watched another ten seasons of that).
