Personal: My Job

So, I work at Burgerville (which is, indeed, the Actual Name of a sorta-fast food place in the Northwest. Burgerville tries to be as locally-based and earth-friendly as possible. Now that I've stopped eating meat and I'm thinking about going vegan and cutting out animal products altogether, there's not much that I eat there (I may eventually try their gardenburger to see if I like it, but I'm a wimp when it comes to trying new foods), but they're doing a pretty good job, I think.

They recently started doing the thing where our cooking oil is getting turned into biodiesel and we've been using 100% renewable wind power since last August. Our beef comes from actual grass-fed cows that live on ranges and everything (We actually had a 'Meet the Ranchers' day a couple of weeks ago, and the ranchers came in and helped out and hung around. Very classy of them.). So, I don't have any huge ethical issues with working there, as I would with... oh, pretty much any other fast food place in existence.

Plus, they like me, which is nice. I've gotten quite a few compliments at my job (mostly from co-workers and managers, but sometimes from guests -- I've had many compliments on my voice and order-taking technique), which I'm still not used to -- I tend to get all quiet and shy when people say nice things about me.

Overall, working there is working out fine for me (plus, they recently started doing insurance with Kaiser for $15 a month, no deductible, which I am given to understand is a very good deal).

I sorta loathe fast food in almost every incarnation, but it sounds like I could definitely get behind your workplace. xD

Actually, I'm really just posting to say that as a very, very picky eater (easily upset stomach and a lot of preservative allergies) gardenburgers can be quite tasty. The squished texture of faux meat works quite well in that setting. xD

You're a new vegetarian thinking of going vegan and you don't like trying new foods? You're going to have to start. To get all the nutrition you will need, it's best to learn to cook and try new things. I actually like a lot of vegetarian and vegan dishes, I just can't go without meat because of health reasons (I'm a big believer in the blood type diet and I'm O+, the red meat eater.) There are many cookbooks you can get to help you eat healthy.

Burgerville is teh Awesome. I always love seeing that billboard near Salem - "XBazillion# of Miles To the Next Burgerville"...

(Yay PNW.)

Their gardenburger is good there, but I don't think it is vegan. And it's nice to hear that they are doing what they say.
