I am just falling more and more in love with this show as I rewatch it. Several times when I paused the show to write something down, I happened to pause it while the Doctor was looking at Rose and Chris just puts so much into his eyes when he looks at her. You can see how much he adores her and cares about what she thinks and feels.
I love this episode for what it does with the Doctor/Rose relationship. Their arguments--the few real arguments they have--are so bruising because Billie and Chris sell them so beautifully. These two incredibly strong-willed people butt heads, yet still care about each other, and that caring only grows deeper as they continue to know each other.
I love that they get this culture clash out of the way -- that they confront each other over the important things and that they deal with the issues involved. It's a healthy thing, that neither of them are afraid to speak up and say something when they disagree.
I actually started off the series not thinking Billie was very pretty. I didn't think she was ugly or anything, but her face really shouldn't work. Yet somehow, with her personality to animate it, she *is* beautiful. The way her eyes light up, her smile--she's stunning, and so much more expressive and dynamic than most actresses who are more conventionally beautiful.
She's incredibly dynamic, I agree. I love looking at her, but she always looks even better in motion than in just a still picture.
Which makes her an excellent match for CE, who, again, isn't so conventionally handsome, but somehow becomes absolutely beautiful the more you watch him.
He has such a lovely smile (which is, of course, one of the things that Rose mentioned she notices in a guy). And he smiles a lot around Rose. And his eyes are so expressive and, when he looks at her, so very warm.
