Some random thoughts that I've had throughout today about the recent episode:
1. I can still do any of those painfully angsty DW vids that I had placed in suspended animation. Um... yay?
2. Mickey and Martha almost certainly being on Torchwood next season is completely made of win. Also, Tosh saved Gwen and Ianto from beyond the grave! Just wanted to mention that again.
3. Jackie and the New Doctor's relationship is going to be a hilarious and brilliant thing. I forsee much teasing of him in the future. I only wish we could see it.
4. While I understand fully why the Really Hot Kiss between Rose and the New Doctor was only in the Confidential (the original Doctor's heart is already being ripped out of his chest; there's no need to drop him in acid at the same time), wow, that was a really hot kiss.
5. Yep, Donna still breaks my heart. I haven't said too much about her ending because... it's straight-up tragedy with an edge of hope (because Donna is capable of being awesome without the Doctor but even if she is, she'll still never know exactly how awesome she was with him). Dramatically satisfying and very well-acted. It's painful and it fits perfectly and it makes me ache for her.
6. The original Doctor doing the emotional equivalent of carving out his own hearts with a rusty spoon is so painful to watch. He gives up his best mate and the love of his life all in one day. And this is after everyone else has walked away from him to rejoin their own families (found or otherwise). Of course, part of the reason they were all so easy about doing that is because they thought he still had Donna and Rose. As Donna would say, he's such a dunce. Oh, Doctor. So smart and yet so dumb.
ETA: Oh, yes, and Donna continued right through to the end to have exactly what the Doctor needed. The Time Lord couldn't think of how to stop the Daleks, but Time Lord knowledge combined with human gut instinct could. Oh, I will miss Donna so much.

Date: 2008-07-08 05:12 am (UTC)Going by that logic, Rusty would have left the Really Hot Kiss in! Though I think this is one instance where I'm fine with letting Rusty's "kick the Doctor when he's down" go. :p
It...was a really hot kiss, though, yeah. :D

Date: 2008-07-08 05:35 am (UTC)btw, just wanted to say how much I appreciate all your Doctor Who posts, I may not have much to say, but they are sometimes the highlight of my day. :) I'm not deep into this fandom and so far you're the only one I've run into that really truly loves Rose/Doctor like I do and I love all your meta thoughts and stuff about them.

Aw, thank you! That is really nice to hear.

Date: 2008-07-08 12:34 pm (UTC)I love how that thread really was woven throughout the entire series. And even though I still have my issues with the Rose Scenario, something else continued right to the end: Donna connecting the Doctor and Rose. I said at the beginning of the series that I think that Donna would be pivotal in reuniting them, and that's exactly what happened. Twice, even - first she was the one who noticed Rose when she finally found the Doctor, and then it was Donna who created a Doctor who could and would stay with Rose. That was a piece of beautiful writing.
I'm going to miss Donna so much. I still think it could have been written slightly better - all I would have needed to make me buy it right away would have been a better explanation of how taking her memories = taking away Time Lord brain/saving her - I've come to terms with that part of the story. It is such a tragedy, for both of them, but at least we've got Turn Left, so we know that Donna can become Magnificent!Donna without the Doctor; at least she has that chance because she lives. At least we have Wilf, who will remember for the both of them. It's heartbreaking, but it's perfect, particularly the way they dealt with the aftermath.

Date: 2008-08-02 06:59 am (UTC)Yep. She was the person who brought the two of them back together.
I'm really going to find rewatching S4 to be very fascinating, I think.

Yes. I've still only watched the episode that one time. Too painful. :(

Well, if he's so determined to be miserable, at least Rose gets to be happy.

Date: 2008-07-08 06:19 pm (UTC)I'm really looking forward to that, too. I just love independent!Martha as we've seen her post-Doctor, and of course having more Mickey will be fabulous as well.

HEE. Yeah. It was basically four years of pent-up love and passion coming out, wasn't it? Love it.

Date: 2008-07-08 08:03 pm (UTC)#4. Just *YES*
#5. I have rewatched JE several times; up until the end of Bad Wolf Bay. Then I switch it off. I still can't accept Donna's ending.
#6. I can't accept where this leaves Original!Doctor either, so I have had to invent a refined ending which leaves him with a feeling of happiness.

Date: 2008-08-02 07:02 am (UTC)The Doctor and Donna are just heartbreaking. And we all thought that she would be our comic relief!
