butterfly: (Avengers -- Tony)
Thank you to everyone. I went to the movies with my mom today, which cheered us both up.

Definitely better than IM2. Not quite as good as Avengers, but a very enjoyable movie.

I'll start with my short list of quibbles and then move on to the positive )

Went with my dad & step-mom as part of my birthday gift.

It was, like all James Bond movies, fun but problematic.

I also saw the Iron Man 3 trailer (I saw other trailers as well, all of them forgettable) and trailer spoilers )

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to write MCU!Rhodey. Because the two actors who have played him had such different vibes to me.

IDK. I actually got slashy vibes in the first movie with RDJ and Terrence Howard, but they felt like straight-up bros to me in the second movie with Don Cheadle. I guess I should just pick the vibe I want and go with that?

What are other people's thoughts on this? Or similar situations where the actors change like this? I've never really had to deal with this before.

(related-note: My Natasha/Tony fic is now at 25k+ words. What is my life.)
butterfly: (Back Again -- Doctor/Rose)
One of the things that was so fun about Doctor/Rose was how into it the whole cast and crew were. It was a joyous tumble of "wow, they really love it as much as I do!" with hearts and flowers all over the place.

I also found that there's also a guilty thrill attached to finding out that one of the actors involved in a pairing that you dislike also dislikes the pairing (*waves at Paul Wesley and his boredom with Stefan/Elena*).

Of course, then there's also the not-so-fun feeling that comes when the cast and crew are really into a pairing and you aren't. See: RDJ's love for Tony/Pepper. He loves the pairing the way that the cast and crew of Doctor Who loved the Doctor and Rose but, for me, Pepper/Tony variously: does nothing for me as a romantic pairing but lots as a platonic one (Iron Man); is something that came as an unpleasant shock at the end (Iron Man 2); or is tolerable because Joss is writing it (Avengers).

So, various feelings. With shows/movies that I watch casually but don't get super into the fandom of, I generally never even know what the creators think. I just watch and it's fun (or, sometimes, it's not fun and I stop watching). But once I get invested in a show, it seems like I inevitably do find out what the cast/crew think about these various things and it does give me feelings. Even more so because I'm already emotionally invested.

Which brings me to Teen Wolf. And while Stiles and Derek are not a canon pairing at this point, they've been getting a lot of love and support from the cast and crew. The showrunner has said that the enthusiasm over Sterek has made him think about the possibility of putting it in the show (and, when someone asked, confirmed that he wasn't joking). This makes me get squishy Doctor/Rose feelings inside at the idea that a pairing that I like might have a chance at becoming not just canon but enthusiastically canon. Because there is a difference -- a big one -- between the general "Of course, I support the couples that I write/act/etc" behavior and the kind of support that leads to actors/whoever actively championing and pushing a specific pairing. It would be kinda neat if that happened with Teen Wolf and I do think that it's got a shot.

Do other people find themselves thinking about stuff this way too or is it just me?

* ETA: This is why one shouldn't post and then go to sleep. Misleading title/question! I wasn't trying to ask if it mattered in terms of whether or not something will be canon, just that if other people also had the same kinds of emotional reactions to enthusiastic support of ships that are canon from the creators/crew/cast, etc. Sorry about that!

The deleted scenes gave me so many feelings. I get why they were cut but, oh! feelings.

butterfly: (Avengers -- reflective Natasha)
My Natasha/Tony fic now has the beginnings of an actual plot and is almost 5000 words. I think this story is actually happening. Whoa.

...also, my brain is writing a porny role-play one-shot with them, too. I don't think this one is in danger of acquiring a plot.

In other writing news, I will be getting to post my Kradam Big Bang sometime in August. Yay! It's about 19,200 words, give or take.
butterfly: (Avengers -- reflective Natasha)
I've basically been writing this for half a week now. It keeps getting longer. I think I'm just going to go ahead and post, because it's already over 10K, which just seems hilariously excessive for a movie not even two and a half hours long (lies; I could write another 20K on this movie, easy. but sometimes you have to say 'no'. Plus, my first class of my last quarter is tomorrow, so I should probably concentrate on that).

I'm going to start with the Bruce-based interaction. Mostly because Bruce comes first alphabetically. I'm sorta gonna go in alphabetical order. Except when I go in chronological order.

Bruce, of course, comes along with his rage-based alter-ego, the Hulk, and how the different characters react to the Hulk and the possibility of the Hulk is one of the most fascinating parts of a movie filled with interesting things.

Going in order of when he met each person:
Bruce and Natasha )

Bruce and Steve )

Bruce and Tony )

Bruce and Thor )

Bruce as an Avenger )

Clint and People Who Aren't Natasha )

Clint and Natasha )

Clint as an Avenger )

Natasha and Tony )

Natasha and Steve )

Natasha and Thor )

Natasha as an Avenger )

Thor and Tony )

Thor and Steve )

Thor as an Avenger )

Steve and Tony )

Steve as an Avenger )

Tony as an Avenger )

The Avengers in groups )

Other thoughts re: movie elements )
butterfly: Icon of the star on Steve Roger's Captain America uniform. (Avengers - Star-Spangled Man)
My vacation went really well. I have so much media to catch up on; can't watch any of it on my phone. And with my premieres vid done, I finally feel like I can watch Avengers vids. No more worry about bleed-over.

Speaking of Avengers, I have so many thoughts rolling around.

A) I still kinda desperately want a movie-verse Tony/Natasha story. I'm really thinking that I'll just have to go ahead and write myself. I lovemovie spoilers ) I seem to be entirely alone in wanting fiction of it but that's happened before and I've gone ahead and written it anyway.

B) I still don't get Clint/Coulson as a pairing*.

C) I'm thinking of writing up meta on all the intra-Avengers interactions from the movie-verse. So, that might happen.

* related: still can't believe in Tony/Pepper as a successful long-term relationship either. It just takes a lot more for me to ship an employee/employer relationship than any other kind, I think. Personal hangups make the world go 'round.
butterfly: Icon of the star on Steve Roger's Captain America uniform. (Avengers - Star-Spangled Man)
You know, I think part of the reason that The Avengers is making me so happy is because it's filling that cheerful little superhero place in my heart. I was thinking about the shows that I'm watching right now and... not so much with the superheroes. The Vampire Diaries, Revenge, The Borgias... all about flawed people who are making unheroic decisions. They're often very understandable decisions, but they are not generally heroic.

I am amused that somewhat general spoilers for Avengers )

So, I've had some time to let the movie settle in (and I'm definitely going to be watching it again - probably several times) and I ended up with some additional thoughts on everything.

even more spoilers than last time )
